Southern Illinois IceHawks (SIIH) Volunteer Policy
Like many organizations, Southern Illinois IceHawks success depends on the volunteer efforts of its members. Parents and friends contribute their countless hours and valuable experience supporting our club and the kids by volunteering to serve as coaches, team coordinators, and board members. Those who may not have the time or expertise to assist on-ice or with other team-level duties can still do their part by volunteering to help with a variety of other events and activities.
In order to encourage volunteerism among all members, every SIIH family will be required to post a $150 volunteer deposit and spend 5 hours of their time volunteering at a SIIH event or activity before the end of the 2010-2011 season. Your volunteer check must be delivered to SIIH prior to your skater’s first practice. Volunteer deposit checks will be deposited by SIIH pending completion of your 5 hour volunteer commitment and your money returned after your commitment, if fulfilled.
After you have worked, you must complete a “Volunteer Hour Reporting Form”. Completed forms should be turned in to your team manager, who will forward these forms to the Volunteer Coordinator, Ms Heather Mowen. You can turn them in as you work or wait until your 5 hour assignment is complete. Upon receipt of the Volunteer Hours Reporting Form, SIIH will return your deposit check to you. If you are unable to satisfy your 5 hour volunteer commitment before the end of the 2010-2011 season, your $150 volunteer check will be retained by SIIH. We also do not bank hours toward next season.
The program is explained in the attached Q&A document along with a list of “Volunteer
Opportunities”. Sign-up sheets will be available at registration/evaluations/tryouts/practices and will be forwarded to each family throughout the season. Event Coordinators will contact volunteers as event dates near in order to confirm assignments.
Thanks in advance to all of our volunteer members for their valuable time and effort on behalf of SIIH and our skaters. SIIH will be strengthened by the enhanced participation of our members. We look forward to a successful and fun season.
