EAST ST. LOUIS – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that a full closure on westbound I-55/64 at the I-55/70/64 interchange in East St. Louis is scheduled for the weekend of November 1-3, 2019, weather permitting.
Starting Friday, November 1, at 7:00 PM, all lanes of westbound I-55/64 will be closed at the I- 55/70/64 interchange in East St. Louis. Westbound I-55/64 traffic will not be able to travel west of the I-55/70/64 interchange. The closure is necessary to set new bridge beams over I-55/64 as part of the MLK Bridge Approach project.
There will be posted detours for I-55 and I-64 as follows:
• I-55 drivers will be directed to take I-255 south across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge to I-55.
• I-64 drivers will be directed to take I-255 south to IL 3 north to westbound I-64.
The full closure of westbound I-55/64 is expected to end by 5:00 AM on Monday, November 4.
Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and use alternate routes including the I-70 Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, and drivers are also encouraged to seek alternate forms of transportation including carpooling and public transportation. Motorists are urged to slow down and obey all construction signage, refrain from using mobile devices, and stay alert for changing conditions while approaching and traveling through the detour route.
The contractor on this project is Millstone Weber, LLC, of St. Charles, Missouri.
IDOT, MoDOT to close three lanes on EB I-64 in Illinois
ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading to Illinois across the Interstate 55/Interstate 64 Mississippi River Bridge (the Poplar Street Bridge) this weekend should consider alternate routes or expect delays as crews will close three left lanes on the eastbound bridge.
Illinois Department of Transportation crews will close three lanes on the bridge starting at 7 p.m. Friday, November 1, to make repairs to the interstate after a recent tractor trailer crash on the Illinois side. During that work, MoDOT will also make repairs to a bridge joint on the east side of the bridge.
Drivers leaving Missouri can expect significant delays traveling through the work zone and may want to consider using Metro, or the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, Jefferson Barracks Bridge, Chain of Rocks Bridge or McKinley Bridge as alternate routes.
All lanes are expected to reopen before 3 p.m. Monday, November 4th
