Letter From the President #7

IceHawks Registration, Fall Tryouts/Evals & Facility Update

IceHawks Families,

As we approach the upcoming 2013-14 season the IceHawks are prepared for another regular season with teams of all skill levels and age. Please read below about our set plans for the upcoming season.

1.  IceHawks Fall 2013-14 Practice and Game Rinks
The IceHawks are excited to announce we will be primarily utilizing 2 rinks for the upcoming season.....All-American Ice Rink in South County and Scottrade Center!  We have reached agreement with Affton Hockey Club to use All-American on Saturday mornings.  We will plan for all our teams to practice there for the entire season. Scottrade and the St Louis Blues have also generously made Scottrade available to the IceHawks for the full season.  We will have regular practices and the majority of our games there.   This will provide stability to our practice/game schedules and eliminate the need to travel to multiple rinks throughout the city.   We may secure additional ice for our AA teams (Sq - Midget) on an as needed basis but will ensure they have 3 sheets per week for practice or games.  We will provide long-term practice schedules after the Blues schedule is released Travel Tryouts, House Evaluations and Mite/Mini Skates

2.  2013-14 Fall Season

a.  IceHawks Travel Tryouts, House Evaluations and Mite/Mini Skates
The IceHawks will be conducting Travel Tryouts, House Evaluations and Mite/Mini Skates the last week in August prior to the Labor Day holiday.  We will start with Travel Tryouts, immediately followed by House (Sq-PW) Evaluations, then Mite/Mini Skates. Every player will have a skill appropriate team to play on.   We will be conducting AA Tryouts first with plans to field Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam and Midget teams.   We will then complete the remaining Travel teams followed by House and Mite/Mini Skates. House evaluations do not have cuts and are intended to establish like skill sets on each team.  Mite/Mini Skates are to intended to understand our numbers and get an initial count of our players. Mites/Minis will be monitored closely during season start, determination of Red, White or Blue levels will not be made until at least early October. We plan to begin all regular season practices the first week in September.

b.  Registration Opens Wednesday, July 10th
Our Fall online registration will open on Wednesday July 10th.  We will have options for all ages and skill levels including Travel (AA - B), House (Sq & PeeWee) and Mite (U8) and Mini (U6). Registration will include options for full or partial payment to include installments spread over 4 months.  Initial registration will require $275 down payment.  Those unsure of whether they will be Travel or House can choose the Travel option.  If your player does not make the Travel team you will be refunded the difference.  Online registration accepts either credit cards or electronic checks.  There will also be options for those seeking financial aid (extended payments) or financial scholarship (reduced fees).  registration will be located at the top left tab of the website,  Those returning players from 2012-13 Squirt, PeeWee and Bantam Travel teams will be provided a discount code (worth $100 off 2013-14 season fees) when registering.  this is to offset lost ice from the previous season.
Finally, the IceHawks Board want to re-emphasize our full commitment to a stable and successful Fall season.  We are grateful to our loyal membership for your patience and understanding after the crisis of last season.  We are working diligently on future plans for a new 2-sheet facility with our partners Hawk Development and McKendree University.  We will provide a separate update on the status of this initiative in the next few weeks.
