If elected to Ice Hawks board I will help to grow Ice Hawks membership and keep hockey fun for all families involved. I am interested in being a board member to help bring new ideas to the organization from a lifelong hockey player and enthusiast. I bring many years of experience to a board setting as I am on the HOA board in my subdivision and was on the board for the Madison Fire Department Social Club. I have been on the ice since I was 5 and grew up in an ice rink as a kid while my mom ran the rink. My father was a coach for over 15 years and help many positions on the board at granite city Steelers club. I am looking forward to an opportunity to continue to make the Ice Hawks Organization what it is today and improve where needed.

Hi I’m Michael Tarvin. I have been the assistant coach for the 8u Raynes team for the 23-24 season. My son plays at that level and will play for the Ice Hawks at the 10u level next year. I am a Research Nurse now and formerly an ER/ICU nurse. I am highly organized and committed to assisting the organizations I belong to. As a board member I would like to help step up our recruiting process to help the club grow. I would also like to help develop a coaching program to better equip our volunteer coaches. Finally, I will make efforts to increase our fundraising to try to help maintain the affordability of our program.

I have lead numerous team over my 21 years in the military and am accustomed to working through challenges and finding solutions to problems. I truly want to see the Ice Hawks as an organization grow and create better opportunities for our kids to grow. My daughter fell in love with hockey the first "girls try hockey" event she went to and there has been no turning back since. I hope to help make a difference for the organization and provide the training and resources our kids need to grow as hockey players. I will be retiring from the Air Force in summer of 2025 and will be staying in O' Fallon, so no PCS's for me!

Please give a brief outline of who you are and why you would like to become a Board member. What are your goals? What would you like to accomplish in your term on the board?

I grew up in Montana and started playing hockey at the age of 6. I had an older sibling who played and I grew up a rink rat. Our youth program owned the hockey arena and the only way the program worked was by parents volunteering and giving back. My parents were no exception to this and for that I am truly grateful. While playing as a kid I started officiating as a way to make some extra money and get extra ice time. This gave me a different perspective as a player. Little did I know the opportunities that existed in officiating. I started a quest of 9 years working junior and minor professional hockey spanning across the US and Canada and was fortunate enough to earn a job with the National Hockey League in the summer of 2009. This is my 15th year working as an on-ice official in the league. I’m also serving on the NHL Officials Association executive board as treasurer. My wife and I have 3 children and they will all be IceHawks. Hockey runs in my families blood and I am extremely passionate about the game at all levels. While we are a fairly new family to the organization, I feel I have a wealth of knowledge and can share a unique perspective having been involved in the game the last 35 years to continue to make the IceHawks better and better.

Please give a brief outline of who you are and why you would like to become a Board member. What are your goals? What would you like to accomplish in your term on the board?

I grew up in this very organization (called "Cahokia" when it was initially formed), starting in the program at 4 years old until I was 15 years old. From there, I went on to play high school, local college, and then a Junior B team. The Hawks organization is where I developed the foundation for success in my later years of playing hockey. My uncle and brother also grew up playing within the organization, and my dad coached as well for over a decade. I was one of the first employees with the U.S. Ice Rink where I would give private lessons on a weekly basis. When Illinois Selects teams were in existence many years ago, I was an assistant coach for a 10u club. If elected to Ice Hawks Board, I want to contribute to the continued growth and development of both the organization and the players/coaches. A main goal of mine would be the attempt to retain players of all skill levels. And to keep players committed to the Ice Hawks, I want to focus and build on each player’s confidence through structured skills development, instill the importance of a cohesive team attitude and inclusion, and, most importantly, just have fun! I truly believe proper evaluation and team placement is very important to help build confidence in a player. I would also like to become more involved with fundraising efforts to help offset costs that might otherwise prohibit a player from participating. Overall, I come from a lifelong hockey family who is very passionate about the sport. I would love to share my 38 years of experience in hockey with the organization that has played such an important role in my life, as well as my family's hockey lives.
